How it works
Photographs from a modern phone are often 4 to 8 MB each. Most forms, portals and email systems will not take that, and on mobile data it costs the person receiving it real money.
Reducing the largest side to 1600 pixels is usually enough for anything that will be viewed on a screen or printed on A4. Quality around 75% is very hard to tell from the original.
The work happens in your browser using the same image engine the browser uses to display pictures. The file is never uploaded, which matters when the photograph is of a passport, a contract or a bank letter.
If you need the original later, keep it — this gives you a copy, it does not replace what you started with.
